I was talking to a friend tonight about starting a dinner group with 4 or 5 or maybe even more different couples to go out and get to know new people and expand our social circle. What do you think? Has anyone ever thought about it? Do you know how to make it work or get it started? Maybe one day it could grow into more with a little travel like a group cruise or trip. I have found it makes things a little more interesting dining and travel with friends. A couple of years ago we took a cruise with 5 couples and it was great... It would be great to have 2 or 3 parties or excursion options a month, wouldn't it? I read about a restaurant in Tarboro that would be great to try out...

I've been searching for some good alternatives in the area. Which restaurant in Tarboro are you talking about, Jim? I heard of one somewhere out that way on the river... you know anything about it?

This restaurant was featured on the front page of the paper just within the last few weeks. I cannot remember the name for sure. Something about a new york connection to 911. I think the cook moved here after be saved from disaster there or something like that...

I think it is called "On The Square"

Keep your money at home. Nothing wrong with food in this area. Service might be an issue at times but we need to support our local businesses.

I'll take my money to where I can get what I want... quality food and quality service. Not going to spend my hard earned dollars on sub-standard anything if I can help it. I'm not saying that all restaurants in this area are like that, but there are some that I do not patronize, nor will I. Perhaps if folks take their money elsewhere, it will convince some of these businesses to do a better job?

Ahh... the free market at work. Weeds out the incompetent inferior businesses and rewards the smart ones Very Happy

I say no matter where you go, tip well for good service. I'd much rather pay a working person for a service than to have them resort to government aid thereby taking my money for doing nothing.

I once had a girl accidentally spill our drinks on me and still tipped her well because she had a great personality and otherwise great service.

On another note, I can tell a lot about a person based on how they interact with waitresses or waiters. If they are rude and obnoxious to the wait staff, I keep my distance.

Ok Pirate... we can't go outside of our town and experience any good old cooking because it does not support local businesses? When in Raleigh do you eat out or drive home? I don't think having a dining club that meets & travels and eats is really going to put any local businesses out of business, do you? Where is your spirit of adventure?

Do I have to cancel my cruise reservations too or will David cater us that far out at sea Laughing Laughing Laughing

This whole thread is about going out, growing, learning, getting to know more people, not about supporting local business. I know they need our support but we need some variety in our life. We need to grow and experience life. So let's go to Rome! (Or Tarboro?)
